Sheep's Bed

Sand bunkers originated on the earliest golf courses resulting from sheep bedding down on slopes and in small valleys. The sheep, wanting to be protected by the wind, created areas of exposed sand, now known as bunkers. The fifteeth hole at Bayonne has hollows in front of both the tee and green that provide protected areas, reminiscent of golf holes found in Scotland or Ireland.
